This distinctive pocket watch has been beautifully crafted with the look of yesteryear. The front of the engraved square case houses the obverse of a genuine U.S. coin. The Liberty Nickel was minted from 1883 to 1912 and is composed of copper nickel. It is sometimes referred to as the V nickel due to the Roman numeral 5 on the obverse of the coin. The reverse features Lady Liberty designed by Charles Barber. The Liberty Nickel first appeared without the word cents but because of fraud it was added in a later minting in 1883. Con men were trying to pass it off as the 5 dollar gold piece by dipping the coin in a thin layer of gold. The word cents was added so the public would be able to distinguish the difference between the coins. Open the watch, and the coin's beautiful reverse design is visible inside the front cover. The Silver Tone Half Dollar Coin Pocket Watch is the classic time piece. A simple but sleek silver tone case houses a genuine United States half dollar. The Silver Seated Liberty Half Dollar was minted from 1839-1891. This genuine silver US coin was designed by chief engraver of the US Mint Christian Gobrecht and was based on a sketch from artist Thomas Scully. It reflected America's neo-classical taste at the time. During the 52 years of production, the Seated Liberty Half went through several design changes including adding the motto "In God We Trust." The coin is secure in the pocket watch casing and opens to quartz style and second sweeping hand over classic Roman numerals. The pocket watch is 1 7/8 inches in diameter and hangs from a 14 inch steel fob open link chain. This historical high polished time piece displays the beauty of a genuine US coin on the front and then brushed finish on the back, which may be engraved and personalized.
