Cre-Away can be used to modify third-degree creosote by converting it into a more brittle state that has a different expansion/contraction rate than the flue it is attached to. During heating and cooling cycles, the treated creosote loses its adhesive properties so it can be more easily removed. Creosote and soot build-up in fireplaces or wood stove chimneys can be a fire hazard if it is not properly cleaned and maintained. All chimneys should be inspected and/or cleaned annually by a qualified chimney sweep. Cre-Away is a four-component powder that safely and effectively modifies glazed or third-degree creosote so that it can be more easily removed by chimney sweeping. First, a reactive agent neutralizes the slightly acidic creosote, making it less corrosive to metal components and less flammable. Second, a dehydrator absorbs the oils and moisture contained in some forms of creosote. Third, a combustion inhibitor helps reduce the chance of chimney fires. Finally, a magnesium catalyst helps break down third degree creosote when the flue is heated by normal use. The catalyst in Cre-Away turns creosote into a char that can be more easily removed. Cre-Away works best when the flue gases are heated to about 600-degreeF (surface stove pipe temperature about 300-degreeF). Apply Cre-Away directly to the flue (not into the fire) using the one-pound applicator bottle. Add PWR to your mortar mix to make it waterproof upon drying. PWR breathes by allowing internal moisture to escape while keeping rain and snow out. Just add one ounce of PWR to every 15 lbs. of dry mortar mixture. Mix it thoroughly with the dry ingredients, then add water. If you use PWR in your mix to tuckpoint a chimney, by the time you're finished cleaning up, the mortar will be dry enough for you to spray Water-Base ChimneySaver on the bricks. No return trip necessary. This great product will not alter the surface color. No one but you and your customer will ever know it's there doing its job day after day.

These Ventubes are hollow stainless steel cylinders installed in chimneys that provide cross ventilation for large flues. When properly installed, they prevent moisture damage that results from condensation in the large cavities surrounding the flue liners. They do this by allowing up to 85% of the condensation inside of the cavity to escape. Ventubes are hollow cylinders constructed of 100%, 304 series stainless steel. Each tube is 1/2" in diameter and 4 1/2" in length. A wire screen is welded in the front of each tube to prevent insect intrusion. VenTubes provide cross ventilation in chimneys with large cavity areas surrounding the flue liner. The tubes help prevent water damage caused by condensation common to this type of chimney construction. Ventubes prevent moisture damage that results from condensation in the large cavities, or chase areas, surrounding flue liners. Moisture vapor held in large cavity areas often condenses on the inside of outer chimney walls when wall surface temperatures fall below air temperatures. VenTubes help to prevent the efflorescence, spalling, and freeze/thaw damage that is caused by condensation in these cavity areas. VenTubes can eliminate up to 85% of the moisture that damages chimneys with large chase areas. Easy to install, they solve an often overlooked moisture problem. Years of field observation indicated that chimneys with large cavities surrounding the liners deteriorate much faster than chimneys built according to the recommendations of the Brick Institute of America (BIA), which recommends one inch of air space between the liner and outer brick. Note: Do not install VenTubes in chimneys which have damaged, cracked, or misaligned flue liners. Do not install Ventubes below the roof line or other combustible exposures.

When spraying ChimneySaver through a pump-up sprayer, overspray that is allowed to dry on the roof can discolor shingles, making dark spots appear where overspray lands. Do not apply to wet or water saturated surfaces and/or when rainfall is eminent.

The bricks along the sides of the smoke chamber are often stepped outward, one above the other, until they meet the flue. This is a process called "corbelling".
